Frequently Asked Questions
Will my employer know if I use
the service?
We are not authorized to release the names of anyone using the service
without their written permission. Even if someone at your worksite
has made the appointment for you, we cannot tell them whether or not
you kept that appointment. We would, however, appreciate a phone
call if you don't plan to attend as other people may need that
appointment time.
How much does it cost?
The service is provided free of charge to all employees (and their
dependent family members) of our member organizations.
How do I make an appointment?
Just call the office at 865-1333 (Hinton) or toll free
at 1-888-865-EFAP(3327) from anywhere in Alberta. You do not have to
be referred by anyone at your worksite.
What are the qualifications of the Staff?
Registered Psychologist with over 25 years of counselling experience.
When I make an appointment for my kids, should I come in with them?
Yes, you should attend the appointment with your children. If the
youth is under the age of 18, we will need your written permission
to provide counselling to your child. There are also questions the
psychologist may want to ask you and your child will appreciate your
presence and support at the session.
Can I use this service to get time off work?
No. The psychologist at the West Yellowhead Assessment & Resource
Service is not authorized to recommend that you have time off work.
You must consult with your family doctor for that.
Should I go to counselling if I am already on medication for
depression?
Yes. While medication will make you feel better for a time, you will
still need counselling to determine why you were depressed in the
first place and to assist you in dealing with those issues.
